  • Wow!!!! It's been such a long time since we updated this blog... we've got so much new news!!! :)

    1) We're expecting a BABY BROTHER for Noelle around Christmas time! Our official due date is January 6 - which was Steve's dad's B-day... a very special day!

    2) We've moved off the ICS campus into a house in a neighborhood about a mile away. It's been a huge blessing to have fellow expats around - and to have a bigger place to move into because...

    3) Our friends, Anna & Eugene (missionaries to Nepal), have been staying with us for a few weeks now. It's been an amazing gift for us to have our dear friends here with us. We're praying that God would lead them in His purpose for them here in Thailand - and beyond as they plan to head back to Nepal in January.

    4) Our time home with family was soooo much needed. It was really hard to say goodbye knowing we won't be back until next June, but we're resting in the knowledge that we're meant to be here for this time in our lives, and that God will help make the sadness of separation from family bearable. He's already provided amazing friends and 'family' here within the ICS community!

    5) Steve has begun his second year at ICS, and is working on finishing up his Master's in Administration. He only has to complete his internships with the principals here at ICS to finish - so he can see the light at the end of the tunnel :)
He's been coaching volleyball and playing lots of soccer with various groups on and off campus...

    6) Noelle is in the midst of POTTY TRAINING! She's doing a great job with minimal 'accidents' :) We're very proud of her!!!!

    7) Kam is setting up the new home, learning to cook, and enjoying mommyhood. She'll also continue tutoring her student from last year and teaching beginner violin.

If you're far from us, we STILL MISS YOU!!! And if you're near, we're thankful for you in our lives! Thanks for reading :)

  • It's a been a busy few months!

    Visitors
Stan & Delia came to visit us in January. We had a great time renting a car and going down to Koh Samet, but it seems that the apartment complex next door was Stan & Delia's highlight of Thailand! They loved the convenience of dinner, a haircut, and a massage all within two floors of each other!

The Jennings family came in February. It was great to have a lot of 'down time' to catch up - as they've had three kids since we saw them last!!!

    Steve
Steve's been very busy coaching girls' volleyball with his Southern (had to add that to sound exotic...hahahaha) friend - Jack, teaching (as usual), playing soccer, and working with the student council. He was in charge of the Valentine's Day rose sale. For a week, he dreamed about roses - and not having enough! Last night, he helped to organize the high school lock-in... an all night activity extravaganza held in the school. He even had to MC! Needless to say - he'll probably be sleeping all day!

    Noelle
Noelle is very grown-up recently. She loves dressing up in her princess gowns - a great gift from Grammy! She LOVES her play group and going to church - coming home from church most Sundays telling us Jesus stories and singing songs. Other things she's into now... Barney, Dora, princesses, babies, hanging with her friends at play group!

    Kam
I had a GREAT 31st bday last week... I felt super loved and special with lots of calls from family (as well as a few super-thoughtful shipments too!) We celebrated with a yummy Lebanese dinner, and I bought some oil paints! I haven't painted in awhile, so it will be good to get back into it! I've picked up a few more violin students... so by the end of April, it will be six total. It's been a huge blessing to me - and has inspired me to play more too! I've also been part of a ladies' accountability group/Bible study of John that's been really great for friendship and support.

    Other news...
We've decided to live in a house that opened up because another teacher will be leaving in June. It's just a five minute bike ride from school, and there are a lot of other foreign families in the neighborhood, so friends will be close! We're excited at how God has provided for us - and ready to have a bigger space to move into.

Our sister and brother, Jen & Andy, had a new baby in February- the third boy...Zachary Andrew Ladas!

Our plane tickets are official - we'll be home from June 8 to July 29. We'd love to see you, so let us know if you'll be in our area then!

    Jet Lag & New Sheets

    dubai
Us in Dubai on the way back to Bangkok

We've made it back, and I'm up and running enough to think about writing a new Xanga entry :)

Jet lag was pretty tough on both sides. A twelve hour time difference really makes a difference! But Noelle's successfully back in her schedule, and we're moving right along.

It's funny how being here makes you appreciate the 'little' things. Among the items we brought back with us were parmesan cheese, candles, bobby pins, and NEW SHEETS!!!! I keep saying I feel like I'm 'moving up in the world' :) But it feels really good to appreciate small things.

Our trip home was wonderful, much needed, and too short! It was great to spend tons of time with our families. Noey rocked out with her cousins the ENTIRE time... and misses being around them here.

    We're thankful to God for...
    * A great, refreshing time at home.
    * Realizing upon our return that we're beginning to feel more 'at home' in Thailand
    * The wonderful people (here and there) that God's placed in our lives

If you think to pray for us that would be great... a few points -
    * The high school ministry here is being revamped - we're excited about it, but are seeking God's direction.
    * Looking for a new home to move to (we have to move off campus next year) in the next few months
    * Language learning - Thai is TOUGH!
    * Finding affordable plane tickets home for the summer (yup, gotta think way ahead...)

    We love you guys!

PS - We need lots of new teachers next year!!!! Check out the ICS website - www.icsbangkok.com if interested :) :) :)

Noelle in the crazy Dubai airport...

Greetings from FREEZING New Jersey! I think they scheduled a few ice storms especially for our arrival! Noelle & I made it after a LOOONG 29 hour journey (including all waiting times, etc). I feel accomplished - and after a full week of rest - my attitude is more postive at having successfully managed a two-year old traveling partner for so long by myself. hahahaha! Steve will arrive on Friday. I will NOT feel sorry for him and his jet-lag as I'm sure he'll have fully enjoyed Emirates' personal TVs and entertainment the entire time :)

That past month has been busy... Steve's been coaching his boys, we went to the beach with friends for Thanksgiving, Kam ran a 1/2 marathon in Cambodia with her wonderful new friend, Kim, Noelle celebrated her 2nd birthday and we had some dear friends from Taiwan visit us just as we were leaving for home.

I'll attach our Facebook photos so you non-Facebookers can have a look :)

Merry Christmas! Our next update will probably be from a warmer place!

    Hey All,

Long time no update! Life has evolved into a fairly comfortable, predictable routine here. Very similar to our life at home - except for the warm weather, missing family :(, and an occasional schockingly Thai moment (gotta love those large insects on a grill in the food courts) here and there, but other than that, we've been caught up into life here at ICS.

Steve wraps up the volleyball season on Saturday with a full day tourney. The girls have gotten much better throughout the season, and Steve seems to have warmed a bit to women's sports. hahahaha... Next week he'll begin coaching U-15 boys' soccer, so not much time in between...

He was also named "man of the match" at his last game with Bull's Head (name of his soccer team). Not too shabby for the old-man on the team :)

I (Kam) just ran a 10K on Sunday with some new running buddies, Kim & Kristin, in downtown Bangkok. We had a fabulous time - as we posed as backpackers for the night in a touristy section close to where the 6am race start was. It was definitely a 10K Thai-style... women began behind the men, the masses warmed up with aerobics with a VERY enthusiastic & deafening Thai band, and the end of the race greeted us with sticky buns, meat on a stick, and hot soup - none of which we indulged in...

Noelle has been fully brainwashed. She turned to me the other day and said, "Want to play soccer someday mommy". I'm sure the sentence came from the "Daddy realm" of the house, but Steve's pretty excited - especially since he now believes women's sport to be a positive contribution to the world (hahahaha again).

We're excited to anticipate our first visitors to Bangkok! We've got Cliff & Leanne our dear friends from Taiwan coming in December, our friends, Tim & Sarah are rumoured to be coming in mid-Dec, and our friends Brian & Charity (with a mission in China) will be passing through in February. We'll also be home from Dec. 11 (Kam & Noelle) until Jan 4. Steve will be home on the 21st. So - lots of exciting things in the near future. God is good.
